A short review of methodology of 64-bit Viva64 solutions developing (www.Viva64.com)

Developing of 64-bit solutions is a task which must be solved by all the companies of “Software Development” market in the nearest future. In this text we deliberately do not specify the reason for this. You can find lots of evidences of this process in the Internet. But we shall concentrate on the description of methods of profit deriving from this task.

Viva64 project is a methodology of new 64-bit application release as well as ways of transformation of old 32-bit programs for working in the new 64-bit environment. This methodology includes the following sections:

1. Knowledge base of some gaps which occur when 32-bit applications are ported to 64-bit systems.
2. Preliminary courses for 64-bit solutions developers.
3. Some literature covering the peculiarities of 64-bit application developing.
4. Catalogue of Internet resources covering related fields.
5. Program tools for certain error type search which occur in programs on 64-bit systems.
6. Program tools for identity verification of 32-bit and 64-bit versions of one and the same application.
7. Program tools for estimation of complexity and, consequently, of the costs of certain applications migration from 32-bit systems to 64-bit ones.

Currently Viva64 project is being advanced in the following ways:

• Knowledge base in the form of articles devoted to the problems and development of 64-bit solutions;
• Internet resource catalogue;
• Program tool for 64-bit error search in programs.

It is essential to notice that the project site (www.Viva64.com) is now aimed for a certain program tool named Viva64. But the project itself is just a methodology of 64-bit applications development, not a single tool able to solve a certain problem partly.

In the case of success of the project as a 64-bit applications development methodology, the project may be of interest not for only small companies, but also for leaders of industry, such as Microsoft, Intel, and AMD.

The most apposite example for the realization of this methodology of 64-bit solutions developing is the methodology of UML applications designing. Within the framework of UML methodology many books, articles, courses, consulting services and program tools were created. After the UML methodology has spread around the world the authors of that methodology, Rational Software Company, was bought up by IBM.
